Why Do Tiles Crack With Underfloor Heating

Warm water heating or under the floor heating has been widely used since the last decade. It provides underground heat to your ground and makes it much more bearable to walk. Unlike radiators, UFH has several benefits. For starters, it has a lower max temperature and does not make the floor too hot. With UFH, you are just using renewable energy. Thus you contribute to making the environment greener. But it is ridden with a major problem of cracking the tiles just within a few weeks of installation. In this article, we will examine why that happens and how it can be solved.

The most common cause of your tiles cracking is the floor itself. A rigid or uneven floor can crack your tiles when the water flows below the surface. There have been cases where tiles were put on the screed and cracks appear just within a week of turning the system on. Although the cracks are small they are enough to crack the tile completely with time. This is more of a problem with the granite tiles. Normally these issues appear due to a poorly designed screed or a badly implemented UFH system.

The key to a perfectly working UFH system is to create a perfect floor. The floor should be flat. It should not be textured and must be smooth. This makes it stable enough to hold the tiles properly when laid on the screed. If the floor has any kind of issues, it can turn into even bigger issues when you turn the UFH on. When things get worse, it finally ends up breaking the tiles.

Screed

Types of Screed | Bonded Screed | Unbonded Screed | Floating Screed

Another problem is the screed tile inconsistency. Screed and tiles expand with temperature but at a different rate. This happens especially when they are installed anew. This causes tension between the screed and the tiles resulting in cracking. Tap here for high-quality kitchen tiles in London.

The UFH system

One major issue is the weakening of the grout or the adhesive itself. This happens when the UFH is turned on too soon. When tiles are installed newly, the adhesive needs to be cured for some time. If you turn the UFH too soon, it will make the adhesive dry. This won’t allow more time for the adhesive to cure and can result in cracking the tiles.

Solution

Cracking issues can be easily resolved. First, keep the maximum temperature to 35.  Do not attempt to turn on the UFH system immediately after installing new tiles. Give the adhesive at least 7 days to cure and then turn on the UFH. Even then do not turn the system on at full temperature. First, keep the temperatures low. Each day slowly increase the temperature to make sure that your tiles don’t break. This ensures that you have a perfectly tiled floor with just the right temperature without having to worry about any kind of cracking.

However, people who have issues such as allergies to indoor allergens and other respiratory problems can have a hard time staying indoors as well. While your air-conditioners keep you cool during the summer season, they are gathering up some harmful air pollutants. This is the perfect time to clean your air conditioner filers along with all the other air filters you have in your house. Not only dirty AC filters can affect the air quality, but the dirt and dust can also clog the filters resulting in expensive repairs. Make sure you also keep the filters of your vacuum cleaner, dryer, and kitchen vents. Keeping them fully maintained will increase air quality.

Clean Your Floors

After vacuuming, mop the floors so that all the remaining dust particles are cleaned off the floors. Use a fragrant disinfectant solution to mop on the floors for better results.

While HVAC systems are now at the heart of every modern home, you need to be very careful with their regular maintenance. Clean them regularly, and invest in a reliable whole-house air-purifying system to get rid of dust, pollen, animal dander, bacteria, mould, viruses, odours, and chemical emissions. What Are The Five Phases Of House Construction?

Building a house is not as easy as a pie. It takes planning, measurement, and execution to model into its final shape. But it is exciting to know how a house is built. Generally, custom home construction and contract-based home construction almost follow the same stages.

It takes basic Five phases to construct a house:

Pre-construction

The pre-construction phase is the period of brainstorming and planning. The first step includes choosing the location where the house is to be built. Then, the architect designs the house that has to be built according to the specifications of the land and the owner. The architect goes through multiple drawings to create a final draft. When this draft gets approved, the location is prepared. The building is demolished if it already exists in the planned location. The land is smoothened and adjusted.

Procurement

This is the stage where the equipment, material, and workforce are procured. Making a good procurement plan helps you in completing the building task quickly and meticulously. It is important to obtain good quality material, equipment, and workforce, without which your house will take an eternity to complete and even if it gets complete it will never outstand. These basic elements need to be chosen with scrutiny.

Laying the Foundation

Laying the foundation marks the execution of architectural design to the house. It is the process of digging the foundation trenches. Excavations are dig to pour concrete footing into the steel framework. The solid and robust concrete mixture lays the base for a strong building. The depth of the excavations depends on the nature of the land and the building that has to be made. The planning of this already takes place in the pre-construction phase.

Framing

The framing begins with building the walls and ends up with the roofing procedure. During this stage the house walls are built, the floor system is completed. And the carpentry task is accomplished to settle the rooves. The sheathing is then applied, which is a process to cover the walls, floors, and rooves to make them water-resistant and to create a base for applying further material. The insulation is also installed in the framing phase to create a consistent indoor climate of the house. Then, the doors and windows are fit in their voids.

Finishing

The final stage comes with specifications for fine-tuning the interior and the exterior. It begins with pipes and wires fitting, the water lines, gas lines, and sewage lines are adjusted according to the plan in the pre-construction phase. It continues with elongating wallpapers or paints and tiling the floors and walls with large ceramic tiles in the UK. It finally ends up with fitting and installing basic equipment like tapes, cabinets, appliances, and vanities.

Hurray, the house is complete, unless you are up to do some more beautifications.

Should Floors Be Lighter or Darker Than Walls?

With that choosing so many bright colors may make your space look empty dark colors may give a congested look. The simplest solution for choosing between dark and light tones is to get a bit of both in your space to create a balanced and lively look of your space. Playing with different shades of color is not an easy job though because when you have to renovate or design a full space it includes both the walls and flooring. Contrasting the color choices of these two is hard.

Many people question whether the flooring should be lighter or darker than the walls, let us clear that first. There is no hard and fast rule for that, this is solely your choice but each pattern has its pros and cons which will be discussed in this article to help you out with your choice of interior.

Though light floors go well with both dark and light walls, ideally dark walls will give a better contrasting vision. You can use white marble tiles to give your room a light, breezy look.

Dark Floors:

Dark floors tend to give a dramatic look to your space giving it more character. With darker flooring preference you get a variety of color scheme options in the market. Not only that, but dark flooring also sets better with bright colored walls giving a wonderful contrast to your room.  Dark flooring gives a more warm and homely feeling. For dark flooring, you can either opt wooden flooring or buy metro tiles to bring that oomph to your space.

Dark Floors

Different Patterns to Suit Your Taste:

You can look for different colors and combinations to set on your walls and floors. Here are different contrast options with their pros and cons, let’s check them out:

  1. Using lighter tones for both walls and floors will make your space looks very spacious that sometimes doesn’t give that warm feeling.
  2. A dark feature wall with lighter side walls will give your space a smaller look. It’s better to use bright colors for a feature wall. This will go well with both dark and light floors.
  3.  Using dark tones for both flooring and walls will create a very narrow look for the room. It will make your space look congested.
  4. Light floors with dark walls will make your room lose its shape and layout.
  5. A dark floor with light walls will give the space a broader look, ideal for those who want to retain the space and warmth of their room.

What should one choose?

Ideally, darker hues at the bottom and lighter hues above are a perfect choice for designing your space.

4 Signs That Your Bathroom Should Be Renovated Now

Your bathroom is one of the most important places in your house. It’s the first place you visit after waking up and the last corner where you go before going to bed every night. A dull, drab, and messy bathroom can ruin your whole mood and day. How many times have you felt that your bathroom seriously needs some renovation so you can enjoy a cozy, warm bath or you can boost up your morning? Or how many times have you felt that your bathroom is unable to serve the intended needs completely? If you are constantly getting irritated by the way your bathroom looks or you do not feel relaxed after using your bathroom, it’s time to renovate it. Different people have different reasons for which they go for renovating their bathrooms, here are the top 4 early signs indicating that your bathroom needs to be re-modeled.

Stained or Cracked Tiles

Cracked, broken, or stained tiles apparently may cause no harm to you or your bathroom but they can be a cause of big problems in the longer run. Cracked or broken tiles may lead to corrosion, water leakage, mold growth, or even structural faults. Even if they are not cracked but only stained, they give a dirty look to your bathroom, no matter how many times you clean it. A stained, dirty, or cracked tile is a great chance to change it and fix it with a new tile of your favorite choice, color, or theme. You can even search for bathroom tiles online UK to find out fancy tiling options for your washroom.

Leakages and Breakages

Water Leaks 101: What You Need to Know to Protect Your Home

If you have leaky faucets or taps then this must be causing water wastage and a huge increase in your water bills. A leaky faucet indicates a plumbing issue which you need to fix as early as possible. While plumbing issues are often ignored, they can cause serious issues like flooding and clogging of pipes. Even a disturbed water flow has the potential to damage the whole water and sanitation pipeline. If you do not cater to this issue timely, this will result in a huge cost later.

Smelly and Congested Water

If your water stinks every time, no matter how much air fresheners you use or how many times you clean the washroom then you need to check this issue. The problem could be caused by the poor functioning of your exhaust fans or lack of ventilation. Poor ventilation can cause excessive humidity leading to congestion. No matter how many products you use for a fresh cool bath, a smelly bathroom will always negate all your efforts.

Lack of Storage

Your bathroom must be designed to fulfill your needs and if you are not having a proper storage space for all your bathroom essentials then this is a clear sign that your bathroom needs renovation. Since no one wants their valuable products to be lying on the bathroom floor, you need to either get separate storage space for your bathroom or get it remodeled in a more spacious way.

Many other signs are indicating your bathroom needs a makeover but the best signal is when you feel the need of changing it or when your heart says that your bathroom needs a style statement matching your personality then you must go for it.
